More about Aid for Ecuador

Aid for Ecuador was founded in 2004 with the intent to bring medical aid to public hospitals and clinics in rural and urban Ecuador. Last year Aid for Ecuador raised $10,000 in monetary donations and $30,000 in medical supplies. 100% of these supplies and moneys were donated to hospitals in Quito, Ecuador. Public hospitals in Ecuador will not help patients until they have all supplies and medications prescribed to them (up to the simplest thing such as gauze. Gauze or stitches may seem like a trivial expense to us, as Americans, but to a poor Ecuadorian farmer, this may represent a week’s salary or more. Even worse, if they cannot afford these supplies they will be turned away and may die as a result). In 2005 approximately 25 medical students distributed our donations to hospitals in Quito, and the surrounding areas, and provided their knowledge and time to the patients, including those in a 600 bed public children’s hospital. We touched and saved countless lives with our efforts, because even $5 can make a life or death difference in this impoverished country.
